You are your own boss. You take the jobs you want and turn down the ones you do not. You keep 70% of every session, paid within 24 to 48 hours of the client accepting your gallery. You own your gear, your time and your taxes. Either of us can walk away at any point.
1. You are an independent contractor
You are not an employee of Shotzi, and nothing here creates employment, a partnership or a joint venture.
- You set your own availability. We never assign you a shift.
- You see the exact payout before you accept any booking, and you can decline anything for any reason with no consequence to your standing.
- You decide how to do the work. We tell you what the customer booked and what the finished gallery should look like. We do not tell you where to stand, what settings to use or how to shoot.
- You provide your own equipment, transport, phone and software.
- This agreement is not exclusive. You may take other photography work, for your own clients or through another company, at any time.
- You are responsible for your own taxes. We do not withhold anything. If we pay you $2,000 or more in a calendar year we will issue a 1099.
2. You must be 18 or over
There is no exception to this and no route for anyone younger, with or without a parent's permission. If you are under 18 you cannot sign this agreement and it has no effect.
3. What we each do
Shotzi
- Finds the customers, agrees the price and collects the money before you are ever sent anywhere.
- Sends you the booking details and the exact amount you will be paid.
- Provides the Shotzi editing preset so galleries look consistent.
- Pays you within 24 to 48 hours of the client accepting your gallery.
- Handles customer complaints, refunds and disputes. You do not.
You
- Turn up on time, to the right place, for bookings you accepted.
- Confirm the customer's safety code before starting.
- Shoot the session that was booked.
- Cull the set, apply the Shotzi preset, and upload finished photographs within the agreed window.
- Tell us straight away if you cannot make a booking you accepted.
4. Money
- You keep 70% of the session price. On an $89 booking that is $62.30. On a $199 booking that is $139.30.
- Paid within 24 to 48 hours of the client accepting your gallery. A client has 48 hours from delivery to raise a problem. If they do not, the gallery counts as accepted automatically and your payout starts, so the longest you ever wait is four days from delivery.
- Tips go to you in full. Shotzi takes nothing from a tip.
- There are no fees, no deductions and nothing taken for equipment, software or the platform.
- You cover your own travel and parking. We do not reimburse expenses, which is why travel is already priced into the session.
- If a customer cancels inside 24 hours and you had accepted the booking, you are paid half for holding the slot.
5. The photographs
- The customer owns the photographs you take for them. You assign those rights to Shotzi on delivery, and Shotzi passes them to the customer.
- You may use them in your own portfolio only if that customer agrees. We ask them once, plainly, after delivery. We will tell you the answer. If they say no, or say nothing, the answer is no.
- Do not post a customer's photographs anywhere before the gallery has been delivered and permission confirmed.
- Delete your local copies within 30 days of delivery.
6. Conduct, and the parts that are not negotiable
- No alcohol or anything impairing during a booking. Many of these happen in bars. You are working.
- Keep communication with customers inside the channels Shotzi provides. Do not take a customer's details to arrange work privately.
- Never enter a situation that feels unsafe. End the booking, leave, and you will still be paid in full. We will always back you on this.
- Treat customers, venues and the public with respect. You are the whole brand while you are on a booking.
- Respect venue rules. Some places do not allow photography and that is their call, not ours.
- Tell us about anything that goes wrong, the same day. We cannot help with something we do not know about.
7. Checks
Before your first booking you must pass an identity check, a criminal background check and a review of your work. Shotzi pays for all three.
The background check is run by a consumer reporting agency, and you will be asked for written permission in a separate document before it happens. If anything in the report means we cannot bring you on, you get a copy and a chance to dispute it before any final decision. We may re-run the check once a year.
8. Insurance and responsibility
- You are responsible for your own equipment. Shotzi does not insure it and is not liable if it is damaged, lost or stolen.
- You are strongly encouraged to carry your own general liability insurance. Some venues will require it.
- You are responsible for your own actions on a booking.
9. Ending it
Either of us can end this agreement at any time, for any reason, with no notice. You do not owe us an explanation and we will not make it difficult.
If we remove you from the platform you are still paid in full for every booking you have completed. We may remove someone for being unsafe, dishonest, repeatedly late, repeatedly below standard, or for working around the platform with our customers.
10. Housekeeping
- This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina, and any dispute belongs in the state or federal courts of Greenville County.
- If we change it we will send you the new version. Changes apply to bookings you accept after that, never retroactively.
- If one part turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
- This is the whole agreement between us and replaces anything said beforehand.
This agreement has been written carefully and in plain English, but it has not yet been reviewed by an attorney. That review is booked. If you want to wait for the reviewed version before signing, say so and we will hold your place.
